Sphatika is almost all glass: a clear top and a clear shelf held in a gold frame, so the eye passes through it to the rug below.
Four decisions
Clear glass top
A clear glass top lets the eye pass through to the rug, so the table takes almost no visual space.
A glass shelf
A second glass shelf beneath the top holds books, magazines and trays without hiding the floor.
Crossed gold curves
The gold frame is drawn in crossed curves at each side, a graceful line beneath the glass.
A rectangle for a sofa
The rectangular shape follows the line of a three-seat sofa and leaves room to walk past.
Materials, named
As shown, a clear tempered-glass top and shelf in a frame of gold PVD stainless steel; smoked or bronze glass is available.
The making
The Sphatika frame is bent and welded on a jig so its curves match, polished and finished in gold PVD, and both glass panels are toughened and edge-polished.
The finished piece
It suits a compact apartment living room, where it keeps the space feeling open while giving two surfaces.
