A living room that wants a fluted drum table as its centrepiece
Fluted drum coffee tables are everywhere, but many are plain cylinders that look heavy and anonymous in the middle of a room.
Bindu adds two details: a gold disc set into the centre of its stone top, and a thin gold plinth that lifts the fluted drum off the floor.
Four decisions
A gold centre
A gold disc is set flush into the middle of the top, marking its centre like the bindu of a mandala.
A fluted drum
The cream drum is fluted all round, so its surface ripples with light and shadow.
A gold plinth
A thin gold plinth lifts the drum just clear of the floor, so it does not look like a block.
Round and sociable
The round top suits a sofa with armchairs, with no corners to catch.
Materials, named
As shown, a round white sintered-stone top with a gold PVD disc inset, on a cream lacquered fluted drum with a gold plinth.
The making
The drum is built from fluted panels and lacquered cream in several coats, the gold disc set flush into the stone, and the plinth polished and finished in gold PVD.
The finished piece
It suits a light living room with cream or white sofas, beneath a pendant centred over the gold disc.
