The brief

A living room that wants a centre table with a sense of drama

A coffee table is the one object in the middle of a living room that everyone sees, so it can carry a little drama.

Grahana holds a polished gold sphere inside a ring beneath its oval top, like the moment of an eclipse, on an oval plinth.

Four decisions

A sphere in a ring

A polished gold sphere sits inside a gold ring, the eclipse that gives the table its name.

An oval plinth

The base stands on an oval plinth that matches the shape of the top above it.

An oval top

The oval suits a long sofa, keeps every end soft and leaves room to walk past.

Calm stone above

Grey-veined white stone keeps the table calm, so all of the drama stays in the base below.

Materials, named

As shown, an oval white sintered-stone top with grey veining on a ring-and-sphere base of gold PVD stainless steel on an oval plinth.

The making

The sphere is spun and polished, the ring rolled and welded round it, and the base fixed to its plinth and finished in gold PVD.

The finished piece

It suits a dramatic living room with dark walls and a warm pendant above the table.
