A villa dining room that needs a long table without a forest of legs
A long stone table is heavy, and the usual answer is more legs. In a large dining room that turns the space under the table into an obstacle course of chair legs and table legs.
Aurelia carries 210 cm of onyx on one sculpted curve, so the floor beneath stays open and the base becomes the detail every guest remembers.
Four decisions
Eight around the table
The 210 × 100 cm top seats eight comfortably, three to a side and one at each end, with room for serving platters down the centre.
A single S-curve
The walnut base is one continuous S that meets the floor at two points and rises to the top at two more; it reads as a drawing made in wood.
Clear at the ends
Because the curve sits towards the centre of the table, the head and foot are free of any support, so the end chairs pull in properly.
Pale onyx
The pale cream onyx is the quietest of the onyx colours, which lets it work in a room with patterned rugs, panelled walls or bold art.
Materials, named
The supplier's label names the top as onyx marble, here in a pale cream; the base is solid wood with a walnut finish. A Pandora quartzite or Italian marble top can be cut to the same size.
The making
The S-curve is built up from laminated timber and carved to its final line by hand, then finished in walnut; the onyx is polished and sealed before the two are fitted together on the bench.
The finished piece
Set it under a long linear pendant in a villa dining room in Gandipet or Jubilee Hills, with eight chairs in a single upholstery so the curve beneath is the only flourish.
The Aurelia is made to order in our own factory in Cherlapally, drawn at our Gachibowli studio, and delivered to Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Tellapur and beyond.
