A dining room that wants warm metal without gold
Gold can feel loud in a calm room, and steel can feel cold. Many homes want a warm metal that does not announce itself every time someone walks in.
Bern uses bronze, deeper and browner than gold, in a single crossed base beneath a quiet white top.
Four decisions
A six-seat size
At 160 × 90 cm, Bern seats six in a typical apartment dining area with room to walk round it.
An X, not four legs
Two arms cross beneath the centre of the top, which leaves every edge of the table free for chairs and knees.
Bronze, quietly
The bronze PVD finish is warm without glare, and sits gracefully next to walnut, leather and warm lighting.
A black plate
The X stands on a black plate that spreads its weight and anchors the base visually on a light floor.
Materials, named
White sintered stone with grey veining on the top; the X is stainless steel in a bronze PVD finish, on a black powder-coated plate. Italian marble suits it if you prefer natural stone.
The making
The two arms of the X are cut from steel, notched where they cross, welded and ground smooth, then given their bronze PVD colour before the plate is fixed.
The finished piece
Bronze suits rooms with walnut panelling, leather chairs and warm lamps; it is a table for a calm, grown-up dining room.
We build the Bern in our Hyderabad factory and deliver it to homes across the city, from Gachibowli and Kondapur to Tellapur, Gandipet and Jubilee Hills.
