A long sofa that needs an oval table with somewhere for books
Oval coffee tables suit long sofas, but most give only one surface and nowhere to keep the books and magazines that collect.
Shanku sets its oval top in a walnut rim on a walnut cone, with a lower shelf held by a curved metal support.
Four decisions
A walnut cone
A cone of walnut carries one end of the top, wide at the floor and narrowing beneath the stone.
A walnut rim
The oval top is set within a walnut rim that protects its edge and warms the white stone.
A curved support
A curved metal support carries the other end of the top, a light line against the solid cone.
A lower shelf
A shelf beneath the top holds books, magazines and a tray, keeping the oval clear.
Materials, named
As shown, an oval white sintered-stone top in a walnut-veneered rim, on a solid wood cone with a walnut finish, a curved metal support and a lower shelf.
The making
The cone is turned and finished in walnut, the rim built and veneered, and the curved support bent and polished before the parts are assembled.
The finished piece
It suits a long living room with a three-seat sofa and a reading lamp beside it.
