An oval table that needs a base with the same geometry
An oval top on a square or rectangular base always looks slightly wrong, because the geometry underneath argues with the geometry on top.
Model 190 is curved in every direction and stands on an oval plinth, so it belongs beneath an oval top and makes the table read as one design.
Four decisions
A flared form
The base widens as it approaches the floor, which gives it stability without adding visual weight at the height of the knees.
An oval plinth
The plinth repeats the oval of the top at floor level, so the table reads as a single designed object from every angle.
No straight lines
Every surface of the base is curved, which suits a room furnished with soft upholstery and rounded chairs.
Even support
The flare spreads the weight of a long oval stone top evenly across the full length of its plinth.
Materials, named
Solid wood with a walnut finish. A display top is shown in the photograph; an oval top in sintered stone or Italian marble suits it best.
The making
The flared form is built up from laminated timber, shaped to its curve with hand tools, sanded through the grades and finished in walnut with its plinth.
The finished piece
Pair it with an oval top of about 180 × 100 cm and curved upholstered chairs for a soft, sociable dining room.
Each 190 is factory-made in Hyderabad and installed by our own team, whether the home is a penthouse in Kokapet or a villa off the Gandipet road.
