A round table that wants a column with texture
A plain cylindrical column under a round top can look like a pipe, however good the stone above it is.
Model T01 pleats its column from top to bottom, so light runs up and down the folds and the base reads as a piece of craft.
Four decisions
A pleated column
Vertical pleats run the full height of the column, each fold crisp enough to throw a thin shadow.
A low plinth
A low plinth at the foot keeps the column steady under a heavy top and lifts it clear of a mopped floor.
Best under round tops
A column reads the same from every chair, so it is the natural partner for a round or square top.
Texture in timber
The pleats catch the light differently through the day, from morning sun to evening lamps.
Materials, named
Solid wood with a walnut finish. The top in the photograph is a display top; yours is cut to order in sintered stone, Italian marble or onyx.
The making
The pleats are cut on a spindle and finished by hand so every fold is crisp, then the column is finished in walnut and fixed to its plinth.
The finished piece
Under a round marble top it makes a breakfast table with presence; under a square one, an elegant games table.
