A formal dining room that should feel calm rather than grand
Formal dining rooms often end up stiff: a heavy table, matching chairs, a chandelier, and nothing in the room that moves the eye.
Sovereign keeps the formality of eight seats in onyx but gives its base one sweeping movement, so the room has a single moment of life at its centre.
Four decisions
Eight seats at 200 cm
At 200 × 100 cm the table seats eight, and its generous 100 cm width leaves room for serving dishes and candles down the middle.
A ring and a wave
The walnut base joins two forms: a closed ring near the top and a long wave that sweeps down to the floor beneath it.
Asymmetry on purpose
The Sovereign base is not mirrored end to end, so the table looks a little different from each side of the room, which keeps it interesting.
Onyx, sealed for life at the table
The label calls the top onyx; it is polished and sealed after cutting, and coasters under glasses keep it at its best.
Materials, named
The Sovereign top is pale cream onyx, as named on the supplier's label, over a base of solid wood with a walnut finish. The same base can carry an Italian marble or Pandora quartzite top.
The making
The ring and the wave are shaped separately in solid wood, joined, and the joint carved away until it disappears; then the base is finished in walnut and the onyx fitted on the bench.
The finished piece
It is at its best seen from a doorway, so place it on the axis of the dining room's entrance and let the wave face the people coming in.
Each Sovereign is factory-made in Hyderabad and installed by our own team, whether the home is a penthouse in Kokapet or a villa off the Gandipet road.
